Waters of Life: Water Womb

N Kav 18 Nov 2020

This picture has been swimming about in my mind for a while, at long last you’ve given me the chance to paint it.
It represents the water that gives us all life, that we grow in from conception, and the precious seas and oceans that cover our planet.
(I was inspired by the story of the creation of the ancient Welsh bard or poet Taliesin. As a newborn his mother Ceridwen placed him in a leather bag and sent him out into the sea. Here he was left at the mercy of nature, nurtured by the lap of the waves and the rhythm of the tides, he rides and drifts, inside his womblike vessel, until, eventually he is washed back towards the land. The bag was discovered lodged in a salmon trap by Elffin, and when the baby was revealed his new father, declared that he has a ‘shining brow’, or in Welsh ‘Taliesin’. )

Awesome creation this!!!

Wow this is amazing and so creative! Did it take you long to do all the scales? I’m amazed at all the detail you put into this.

Your inspiration and painting are beautiful.

Thanks VoyKay! Frida Kahlo is one of my favourite artists, in fact Mexico has a very special place in my heart.
Lilikins, I underpainted the scales in acrylic before I applied the oil colour.
